CHRISTMAS DINNER On December 21 we will have our annual Christmas Pitch-In Dinner with our carving family. The Club will provide (thru Jeanne Johnson) the turkey and trimmings. We will share fellowship and memories of 2009 and plans for an even better 2010. Numerous pictures taken by RALLIE MURPHY will be shared. We'll officially welcome our 2010 club officers. Bring: Table Service Possibly Drinks Dish or two to pass Gift (value of $10 or less) to participate in the exchange Your spouse Our Dinner will be at our usual meeting time of 6:30 p.m., eat at 7:00, at our regular meeting place at 4751 E. Minnesota Street. HIGHLIGHTS OF 2009, A YEAR OF WOODCARVING GOOD MONTHLY MEETINGS presided over by our great officers, GREG MAY, President, RALLIE MURPHY, V.P., DAVID DEBRUHL, Secretary, and JEANNE JOHNSON, Treasurer. VP RALLIE served as Program Chairman and Club Photographer for the year. JANUARY: Sixteen members and guests toured the Organ Company and heard Master wood carver Robert Duffy tell of his carving experiences. Another part of our club met at our regular meeting place under the guidance of DAN BAILEY and had a carving night. FEBRUARY: DENNIS DEBRUHL shared his interest in Chip Carving, helpful books and tools, and his considerable skills. MARCH: BOB LAWENCE shared his method of turning a picture into a carving pattern. He uses his digital camera mounted on a tripod. The picture is transferred into his computer and resized and printed. APRIL: JOHN LYBARGER shared his methods of wood-burning. He demonstrated techniques and his skills in an informative session. A few members also brought projects and their burning tools and joined in the sharing. MAY: "The Art and Joy of the American Carousel" was presented by DAVID BABB. A lot of history and considerable information on carving the carousel was given. JUNE: "Workshop on Glass Eyes" by BOB LAWRENCE shared Bob's magic in making professional looking glass eyes using two part epoxy and colored paper. A Tool Auction was enjoyed by all, and sales went back to the sellers. JULY: C.C.C. annual Picnic at DAN BAILEY'S home featured great food and a show-and-tell table with many contributors. We had to add extra tables! Good food, good friends, and good fellowship! AUGUST: State Fair Aug. 7-23 was a large commitment by our members to talk, carve and share the joys of wood carving with Fair visitors. SEPTEMBER: Magic in Wood club carving show was held in Noblesville in a new and more suitable building. A very good one-day show and many hard-working CCC members to make it happen! "Making Carving Knives" was presented by DAVID BABB. Information, books, tools, and some home-make carving knives in progress were shared. The process of basic knife making was the theme. OCTOBER: "Fun and Funds" Auction with sales contributed to club treasury. Some nice bargains and the treasury grew too. NOVEMBER: "My Other Hobby" was a sharing of our interests in our other-than-carving hobbies. Good response and we simply ran out of time for all to share. We'll do this again in 2010. We shared in the combined carving show by Hoosier Club, Franklin Carving Group, and CCC at Franklin Nov. 7th; very good and balanced show. DECEMBER: Our annual Christmas Pitch-In Dinner will be on the 21st and we do a lot of sharing of the year's events and experiences, and good food and fellowship! (See article above) Some other carving highlights of 2009 : APRIL 4: Raintree Woodcarvers' Show at Muncie DUNELAND CARVING SHOW April 18-19 at Portage. Exhibitors from CCC were NORMA and DAVID BABB JUNE 6: SAWMILL DAY at LADOGA at BOB CHASTAIN'S rural home. Attending and purchasing wood were DAVID BABB and DAN BAILEY JULY 18-19: EASTERN WOODLAND CARVING SHOW at Converse JULY 26-31: DOANE CARVING EXPERIENCE at Crete, Nebraska. Registered were DAVID AND NORMA BABB their 5th year. AUGUST 20-23: ANNUAL WOOD CARVERS SUMMER CAMP at Bremen, IN. DAVID BABB and DAN BAILEY served as two of the instructors. Registered for classes were BOB LAWRENCE and LYNN ROZZEL. Great time for modest cost! NOV. 7: COMBINED CARVING SHOW by Hoosier Carvers (Columbus), Franklin Carving Group, and C.C.C., held at Franklin, with a number from CCC registered. DAN BAILEY and DAVID BABB represented CCC on the organizing committee. SEPTEMBER 12 C.C.C. CARVING SHOW at Noblesville. Great show GREG, KEVIN, and COMMITTEE! ON-GOING WEEKLY 'FREE' CARVING GROUPS AT ROCKLER, WOODCRAFT, DOWNTOWN and OTHER LOCATIONS + + + Treasurer JEANNE JOHNSON reports we have 47 paid members at the close of the year. Reminder: dues for 2010 are now due! CHRISTMAS HINT: Let your family know about your carving tools suggestions for Christmas! Beats receiving a new necktie or scarf! HINT: A number of our CCC members have the experience and perhaps the interest in presenting a wood carving program to another organization you may be a member of.
