CCC CARVERS CREATE EAGLE HEAD CANES
Some thirteen Eagle-Head Canes have been carved, painted, and sent by CCC to post 9-11 leg wounded veterans.  Most of these vets have received purple hearts, and when they receive an Eagle head cane from "grass-roots" citizens, they are very impressed and grateful.  It is our way of saying "Thank You" to women and men who have made great sacrifice for their country.
Some 24 carving clubs across the nation participate in this very worthwhile program coordinated by Jack Nitz.  The "eaglecane.com" Internet site gives full particulars on this program and plans and hints on carving the canes.  Each cane is an original for each carver puts special themes and carving touches on the heads and cane shafts.  Carvers are urged to check out this Web site occasionally to see articles, pictures of vets and canes, and how-to "tutorials."

Another site to visit is www.eagleheadcanesprogram.com
The Web site contains many touching pictures and stories to veterans who are receiving the canes.  Pictures of the canes carried by the veterans are beginning to be shown in the media.
At the present time CCC is receiving approximately one name per month to receive canes.  We are presently searching for the names of veterans who've received a purple heart in military conflicts prior to 9-11, which includes a number of wars and military actions.  We presently have six finished canes ready to send.
Club members are presently working on a number of canes and we are beginning to bring them to the stage of completion of carving, painting the eagle heads and a theme on the shafts, and leaving the shaft un-sealed and a space where the name and medals awarded can be burned onto the shaft, shaft sealed, and the cane mailed to the Vet.
Woodcarving is fun, but it also has a serious note.  We are reminding others and ourselves that "All gave some, but some gave all."
We have received assurance and gift of a small amount of money from some that help with some of the materials for the canes.  President David Babb, at 317-780-9476 is the contact person in CCC for this project.
